Make Money Balloon Twisting
People are always asking how I got started doing balloon twisting for money.
So here is what I did!
I started first doing magic. I was that the flea market with my girlfriend and her grand kids. We saw some people there selling the floating card trick. Well I had to know how is done so I bought it. I do courier work for a living and I figured it would be something cool to do for my customers. Of course once all my customers saw that trick I had to buy some more tricks. If you’re looking for a place to buy magic check out MJM magic or Magic Supply.
One day I was looking at the MJM magic site and saw a video on balloon twisting called Balloon School.
If you go to MJM magic and search balloon school you’ll find it.
This video teaches basic as well as advanced balloon twisting. 3/4 of the balloons I twist for children’s birthday parties, I learned from this video.
The point is before you can start making money you had to have a product.
My product is balloon twisting and magic. Some people like to do the clown thing. And that’s OK. Personally I don’t do clown. To see some of my balloons and highlights of some of the tricks I do for children’s parties checkout BalloonTwisterandMagic.com
Once I learned how to do the balloons in the Balloon School video. I found some balloon twisting books on Amazon. And of course there are a lot of people on YouTube with videos many of which can be found on this Blog.
Then I bought enough children’s magic tricks to fill about a half an hour of time. If you decide to do this, pick tricks that you are comfortable with. I start my routine with tricks that the little ones, under 5 years old will like. They seem to have the shortest attention spans, and lose interest quickly, Coloring book that colors itself, candy factory, etc. The middle of my routine caters to the 5 to 10-year-olds. Needle through balloon, maybe some rope tricks, etc.. I finish my routine with tricks the older children and the adults like. I end with the newspaper tear & restore.
This seems to work best for me. You are there to entertain everyone. and the parents are the ones who book the parties and most importantly pay for you to come.

OK you have learned how to make a good amount of balloons. Learned enough children’s magic to do a half-hour magic show and you are ready to do some entertaining. How do you get your name out there without spending a fortune on advertising?
Here is my secret. I went to local indoor mall. It has to be a indoor mall! There is just not enough walk by traffic at an outdoor mall. I walked around to all the store’s. And handed out a quarter page ad I made up using Microsoft Word. Telling the store manager that I would be willing to come to their store and twist balloons free. As long as I can accept tips. This is also known as busking. The store likes it because it attracts attention to their store, at no cost to them. I like it because I can hand out my card advertising my services. And make at least enough money to pay for my balloons. Usually more. I get the majority of my birthday party work using this method.
I set up just inside the entrance of the store. If you are too far inside the store people won’t see you. If you are too far out in the mall aisle you could get negative feedback from the mall.
Here is the copy of the ad I hand out to stores:

After you make up the master using microsoft word. You can take it to Staples or Office Depot for printing. Have them copy the master on color card stock. I have tried alot of colors but Pink works best for me. You can get four quarter page cards on a sheet. And they will cut the sheets for a couple of dollars more.
If you are a balloon artist or twister making money and would like to give advice to people who are just starting, feel free to add your experience to this page.
